The World Economic Outlook (WEO) database contains selected macroeconomic data from the WEO report which presents the International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff's analysis and projections of economic developments at a global level. Mapping Worlds was approached to develop a visualization application that enhances the dissemination of the WEO database and other key databases by providing users with data exploratory tools such as graphs, maps and charts.
The IMF Data Mapper is a clear interface with a dynamically linked map and line chart that give long time series the full floor. A scatter chart allows for easy comparison between countries, regions or analytical groups on multiple variables. Administrators can easily include additional databases and allow internal users to upload their own data.
In their effort towards Universal Access, UNAIDS approached Mapping Worlds to develop the Mapping Progress Towards Universal Access Tool to display key data on global and country progress in the AIDS response, give a global view of HIV infection, and provide information on national Universal Access targets set by countries.
The map and menu combination offer a good entry point into the different datasets. Users can easily browse the data available or further explore country documentation. The cartograms encourage users to rethink familiar subjects. Content and data can be uploaded onto the application by using the same excel files that are compiled for internal processes. The application is displayed in the official UNAIDS languages -English, Spanish, French and Russian.
In their effort to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals and introduce the concept to Dutch pupils, the Dutch National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (NCDO) approached Mapping Worlds to create a communication tool that highlights key data on the MDGs and provides progress assessment. Two editions linked to the same database were made -one focused on the general audience, the other on the high school audience.
The Millennium Development Goals Atlas is a rich interface with different visualization features, varied text content, and satellite imagery that offers a comprehensive picture of the MDGs. Users can browse the application and activate dynamic cartograms to learn about the progress countries are making. For the school edition we simplified the navigation paths and created content for the thematic country pages.
The Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS), an initiative to stimulate data based analysis and decision making in African agriculture development, approached Mapping Worlds to create their new website and bring together four regional editions in one interface.
The ReSAKSS website is a dynamic data visualisation interface that effectively combines text and resources to provide a comprehensive overview per country, region or theme.
